Philosophy of Performance
Performance to me, like many others, can be nerve wracking. Especially when I was in high school as well as early on in my undergraduate, it always gave me the worst anxiety. I would shake, my mouth would be dry, I could barely play a note, all those typical symptoms. It was not until my final year of undergraduate where I discovered my passion for performing. This whole time I thought performing was doing my best to show off my playing. However, the more I performed, the more I realized it is so much less complicated than I first believed. Performing is simply sharing music with others. That is all it ever should be. Whether you are playing for your grandmother during Christmas or you are performing in the finals at the National Trumpet Competition, you should always think about the incredible art you are showcasing. Be the best you can be. Show the world how incredible you are. Think about why we became musicians in the first place, and have the most fun you possibly can while you are on stage.
